De Glass Prize wordt elk jaar uitgereikt door Warm Glass UK om de creativiteit op het gebied van ovengevormd glas te stimuleren en glaskunstenaars over de hele wereld aan te moedigen hun werk te delen en hun passie te uiten.
Dit jaar mag ik mij de trotse winnaar noemen in de categorie Aspirant-glaskunstenaars, met mijn inzending “The Story of a Suitcase”.

Het is een publieksprijs, want op de Facebook-pagina van Warm Glass UK kon er gestemd worden op alle inzendingen binnen deze categorie. Ik wilde het verhaal vertellen van een mysterieuze koffer. Het is duidelijk dat hij veel heeft gereisd. De verweerde koffer laat aan de verbeelding over. Het moedigt kijkers aan om zich een levensverhaal van de eigenaren voor te stellen. Wat is het verhaal van deze koffer? Werd het gebruikt voor plezier of voor een gedwongen beweging?
Het was een uitdaging om dit object te maken. Een leercurve waarin ik opnieuw veel heb geleerd over de mogelijkheden en eigenschappen van glas.

The Glass Prize is run by Warm Glass UK each year to inspire creativity in kilnformed glass and to encourage glass artists throughout the world to share their work and express their passion.
This year I can call myself the proud winner in the Aspiring Glass Artists category, with my entry “The Story of a Suitcase”. It is an audience award, because all entries within this category could be voted on on the Warm Glass UK Facebook page.
“I wanted to tell the story of a mysterious suitcase. It is clear that it has travelled a lot. The weathered suitcase leaves to the imagination. It encourages viewers to imagine a life story of its owners. What is the story of this suitcase? Was it used for pleasure or a forcible movement? It was a challenge to make this object. A learning curve in which I again learned a lot about the possibilities and properties of glass.”
